What is a Gas Fire?

What is a Gas Fire?

A gas fire is a domestic appliance used to heat a room using a gas flame. It can also provide a decorative flame effect, adding ambiance to a space.

Types of Gas Fires Available in Ireland

The following categories of gas fires are available from TheGasCompany.ie in Ireland. For more information on each type, click the provided links.

High Efficiency Gas Fires

Hole In The Wall Fires

Hole In The Wall gas fires are perfect for modern open spaces. They are warm, stylish, and attractive, offering more floor space by eliminating the need for a hearth.

Hotbox Gas Fires

Hotbox gas fires deliver a flame effect combined with heat, typically between 2.5 kW and 3.5 kW. A hotbox has a built-in box around the flame to control heat loss to the chimney, providing more heat to the room than basic "coal effect" fires. They are generally fitted into rectangular openings, making them unsuitable for cast iron fireplaces.

Convector Gas Fires

Convector gas fires draw cold air in and send hot air back into the room, maximizing heat output while keeping fuel bills low. They deliver between 3 kW and 4.5 kW of heat and are generally fitted into rectangular openings, which also makes them unsuitable for cast iron fireplaces.

Flueless Gas Fires

Flueless gas fires are ideal for homes without a chimney. They are 100% efficient and clean the exhaust from the burner without any heat loss up the chimney. Available in a variety of types and sizes, flueless gas fires are a versatile heating solution.

  • Wall Mounted Flueless Gas Fires
  • Flueless Gas Stoves
  • Flueless Inset Fireplace Fires

Coal Effect Gas Fires

Coal effect decorative gas fires are designed to provide low, complementary heat, typically used alongside another heat source like central heating. They are intended for standard brick-constructed chimneys (Class 1 Chimney/Flue).

Basket Gas Fires

Basket gas fires offer a classic look with the feel of a real coal or log fire, minus the hassle of cleaning ash. Available in various sizes and finishes, they are perfect for larger open fireplaces, providing real flame effects and background heat.

Glass Fronted Gas Fires

Glass fronted gas fires come in outset and inset types, offering high efficiency and heat output. They are available in a range of types and sizes, perfect for those seeking high heat with a living flame effect.

Radiant Gas Fires

Radiant gas fires are classic in style, robust, and suitable for almost any fireplace. Mounted on the fireplace hearth, they provide adjustable heat from 1 kW to 4 kW.

Cabinet Heaters

Gas cabinet heaters are easy to use and require no installation. Simply connect a bottled gas cylinder and turn it on. They are available in many styles, ideal for extra heat in homes or businesses.

How Does a Thermostatically Controlled Gas Fire Work?

A thermostatically controlled gas fire works similarly to a thermostat on a cooker. When you set the dial to a specific heat level, the fire will automatically adjust to maintain that temperature.

For example, if the room temperature exceeds your set level, the fire will reduce its output. Conversely, if the room is cooler, the fire will increase its output to reach the desired temperature. This automatic regulation saves energy and money, ensuring a comfortable and consistent room temperature.

What is Radiant Heat?

How Does Convection Heat Work? How Does Radiant Heat Work?
Radiant Heat: occurs when an object or surface becomes warm and then emits the heat back in to the room. Certain materials store heat particularly well and can radiate this stored heat back into the room over an extended period.

Radiant heat will travel through the air from its source until it hits an object, and the object (typically furniture or people) will be heated.

What is Convected Heat?

How Does Convection Heat Work? How Does Radiant Heat Work?

Convectet heat heats the air around the fire or stove. Our convector fireplaces greatly enhance convected heating efficiency. By drawing cool air through the grate and heating it in a convection chamber before diffusing the warmed air back into the room, the result is a heating efficiency twice that of a traditional open fire.

Many fires and stoves use a combination of radiant and convected heat.
External Air Facility

All fires require an air source to provide oxygen for combustion. If the air is drawn from room in which the fire is installed, this cas cause draughts. The External Air Facility means your fire will draw air from outside the room and eliminate any draughts, effectively increasing your heating efficiency.
Frameless Fire option

For those who require a minimalist look, frameless fires have no exterior frame between the front of the fire and the wall.

The Gazco high efficiency glass fronted fires do have a 27mm inner frame that secures the glass in place.
Convection System

The Gazco convector fireplaces greatly enhance convected heating efficiency. By drawing cool air through the grate and heating it in a convection chamber before diffusing the warmed air back into the room, the result is a heating efficiency twice that of a traditional open fire.
Remote Control as Standard

Once the pilot light has been ignited manually you can vary the flame height and heat output from the comfort of your armchair.

State of the art features - wood & multi fuel fires
What is Airwash?
Airwash is part of Stovaxs firebox air flow technology.

Airwash is a design feature that uses a specially placed vent or vents to draw in cool air from the outside to wash over the inside of the glass. This helps to keep the glass cleaner for longer, allowing you to enjoy the glow and flames to the full.

It is also used as primary combustion air when burning wood.

Cleanburn is part of Stovaxs Triple Air System technology.

With Cleanburn, secondary air is pre-heated as it passes through a heat exchanger chamber within the firebox. It is then drawn into the smoke stream, where it combusts unburnt hydrocarbons to provide a cleaner burn and greater thermal efficiency.

A stove with the Cleanburn will give you more heat output from your fuel.

What is Opti-Burn?

Certain wood burning and multi fuel fires incorporate the Opti-Burn. This setting means burning logs or smokeless fuels with outstanding efficiency, resulting in more heat delivered into the room and less going up the chimney.

Combustion is achieved by directing three separate airflows into the firebox. Primary air burns the fuel under the fuel bed. The Airwash flow helps keep the window clean and the pre-heated, secondary air promotes cleanburning by the combustion of excess hydrocarbons in the smoke,
Boost Setting

Use this setting when lighting or re-fuelling your stove to quickly bring the fire up-to full strength.

How does a thermostatically controlled gas fire work?

How does a thermostatically controlled gas fire work?

The best way we can explain this to you, is by using your cooker - as an example.
When you set the dial on your cooker to say GAS MARK 5 (or 190 degree on an electric cooker) - when the cooker reaches the required temperature, it automatically lowers down and holds your required cooking tempreture.
When you install one of our Thermostatically controlled gas fires - the same applies.

Simply set the dial on your new GAS FIRE , to the level of heat you find comfortable in the room. When the room becomes warmer than the level you want, the fire will automatically lower down to control the heat.
Equally so, if the room gets colder than your set heat level , the fire will increase its burn rate to give you the extra heat you expect n the room.

So very simply put,
Set your new Thermostatically Controlled Gas fire to the cosy temperature you want and you will never have to change the dial again.
Your your new Thermostatically Controlled Gas fire will maintain your required heat level in the room, when it's in use.
This saves your energy, and more importantly - saves you money !!!
